The first quarter book report is a letter book report. (See the format in the book report template drop down). It is due September 27th. The students need to read a “just right” chapter book, one that they have not read before and that is at their reading level, to complete the letter. This does not include graphic novels, comics, or picture books.
Choosing a "just right" book using the Five Finger method:
1. Open your book to any page.
2. Read the words on the page
3. Count the number of words, by raising a finger for each word that you do not know or that gives you trouble.
4. Use the number of words that you counted or fingers that are raised to help you decide if this is a good book for you to read.
- One word - OK
- Two words - Still a good choice
- Three words - You may need help reading this
- Four words - Tough to read
- Five words - Try a different book
