Letter Book
Report
For this quarter you will complete a letter book report: see format below. You will need to read a “just right” chapter book, one that is at your reading level and that you have not read before, to complete your letter. This does not include graphic novels, comics, or picture books. You will also receive a writing grade for the book report so pay attention to writing conventions.
Due: September 27, 2012
FORMAT:
August 22, 2012
Dear Mrs. Ward,
Paragraph 1: State why you chose the book. Make sure you give the title of the book and the author’s name. Underline the title of the book.
Paragraph 2: Tell a little about each of the main characters in the story. Include things like – looks and personality. What makes them the main character? What do they do that is important?
Paragraph 3: Write a brief summary of the book you read.
Paragraph 4: What does the book say or show about life or people? Here is where you will write about the theme, or deep meaning of the book. This can be a message about friendship, working together, facing a challenge, never giving up, etc. Include an example from the book that illustrates your point.
Paragraph 5: Evaluate the book. Explain what made it a good or bad book. Discuss if you would recommend the book to anyone. Ask some questions about the parts of the book that perplexed or confused you. If you did not have any questions, make sure to add that to your letter – then add in some things that you figured out from reading.
Sincerely,
Your name
